We are Makaíba Studio, an architecture studio based in Belo Horizonte, working throughout Brazil. Our aim is to create projects that celebrate national design, with a strong tropical and contemporary appeal. We seek to highlight the country’s lush nature by integrating it with the built environment. With this in mind, each project is unique, featuring sustainable solutions and a great attention to detail, materials, and finishes.
We approach each project considering its specific conditions and develop uncomplicated architecture, involving clients in the process and seeking appropriate and innovative solutions. Our work begins with the site visit and mapping and continues through to the execution of the project.
Our method employs cutting-edge technologies for data collection, analysis, and processing, such as sunlight exposure, ventilation, earth movement, and neighborhood context, with the goal of creating houses that are integrated with nature and enhance the land and natural landscape.
Our name is a tribute to the Macaúba palm, a distinctly Brazilian tree found throughout the national territory. Depending on the region, it may be known as coco-de-espinho, mucajá, or bocaiuva, but before all these names, its original name was Tupi: ma’ kaí’ ba.
